Background[ edit ] Christians seek to uphold the seriousness of wedding vows. Yet, they respond with compassion to deep hurts by recognizing that divorce , though less than the ideal, is sometimes necessary to relieve one partner of intolerable hardship, unfaithfulness or desertion. Christian Egalitarians believe in an equal partnership of the wife and husband with neither being designated as the leader in the marriage or family.
Instead, the wife and husband share a fully equal partnership in both their marriage and in the family.

Leave a comment Last week I talked about how interracial dating can go wrong by citing a certain website that is designed exclusively for those desiring only interracial relationships. I noted how this can allow people to develop unhealthy, racially-based fetishes. Since then, some have brought up the question of whether or not interracial dating is Biblical.
This argument is not only easily dismantled, but in fact, racist in and of itself. In order to properly talk about interracial relationships, we must define what race is. The best definition I have found comes from Dr. Mikhail Lyubansky , a clinical psychologist and professor at the University of Illinois. The argument that interracial relationships are not Biblical could almost be dismantled by simply saying that race, as we know and understand it or try to , in America today, simply did not exist when the Bible was written.

While it is true that most of the great abolitionists were inspired by their Christian faith, it is also true that their opponents were inspired by their Christian faith. As a result, much contemporary racism is rooted in Christianity. Unfortunately, the Bible is not very helpful when it comes to race issues. Many have found within its pages justifications for slavery, abuse of African-Americans and segregation. Unfortunately, the divisions between the races are exacerbated, not diminished, by Christianity.

Anti-miscegenationists — persons opposed to interracial marriage — come in a variety of types: Some are simple racists — most often white supremacists — who regard all non-whites as intrinsically inferior to all whites. Non-whites are often referred to as the “mud” races. Others believe that God divided humans into different races and expected them to remain separate from each other forever.
In contrast, most theologians have given these same passages a non-racial interpretation. We use the King James Version of the Bible here for copyright reasons. Some of the passages are: Thus inter-marriage was forbidden on racial grounds. However, growing archeological and DNA evidence has revealed that the Hebrews originated as a sub-culture of Canaanites. Most theologians believe that the marriage prohibition in Genesis was grounded on a concern that the Hebrews would adopt the Pagan polytheistic religious beliefs and practices of nearby tribes if they were to marry outside of their culture.
Thus the prohibition was based on religious, not racial differences. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind The term “kind” in the Bible can refer to a species of animal.

Mini you and I are sinners we have sinned against God we have broken His law. We deserve eternal separation form God in a place of torment. But God provided a way of salvation, of forgiveness from sins through Jesus the Christ. He bore in His own body our sins when he was crucified on the cross. Mini you and I can not work for our salvation because all of our righteousness are as filthy rags in His sight. The only way of salvation is that we trust and believe in Christ and what He did on the cross for us.

And there wouldnt be, as God says we are all created equal. Bob Jones University v. United States Quote of the Day: Let me tell you why we dropped it We have a broader testimony, and if all anybody can see is this rule which we never talk about or preach, which most of our students couldn’t even tell you what it is, it’s that unimportant to us. I said to our administration, ‘You know guys, this thing is of such insignificance to us; it’s so significant to the world at large.
Why should we have this here as an obstacle? It hurts our graduates; our concern for the cause of Christ; our concern for our graduates; our concern for our testimony; our concern for the school’s broader usefulness is greater to us than a rule that we never talk about and it is meaningless to us. The principle upon which it is based is very important, but the rule itself is not We never have tried to. We have never tried to do that. But we have said there is a principle here, an overriding principle of the one world government.
But let me tell you how insignificant this is. Students never hear it preached.

Race, Class, and Christianity 5 Comments views 3 The body of Christ has played an unfortunate role in stigmatizing interracial marriage in the United States. Interracial unions were common in the early days of American settlement when European men intermarried with Native American women and with freed people of African descent. But as America developed a slavery-based economy, many pastors began to preach that slavery was ordained and blessed by God. Interracial marriages between whites and Native Americans or blacks were eventually banned, slave marriages were not recognized, and Native American marriages were typically viewed as barbaric rituals.
Many Christian slave owners justified adultery and exploitation of black and multiracial women by referencing Abraham and Hagar.
